We could use the Mayan calendar.
 
One long-year starts/ends on a astronomic seasonal turning point. (right now the 21 December on the Julian calendar; as you may have picked up from the insanity police).
 
Every 'year' is exactly 365 days.
This means that every year the seasons start about 6 hours later. (there are no jump-years)
 
The consequence is that every 1400-ish years the seasons shifted a full 360 degrees and new year starts at the exact same day as the shortest day of the year (from the Northern hemisphere perspective).
 
I think it's pretty brilliant and much better than that jump-year.
 
When the "long" count starts is completely arbitrary though; since planetary alignments have their own cycles and do not follow up on the spinning rotation of earth.
