Yeah, pretty much.
You can do almost what you like till your 40s, you have enough youth to carry you, after that though its time to live healthier.
Mind you my dad lived healthy, didn't smoke, ate organic, drank red wine, and got strokes and died of cancer at 78. His dad was a fat slob who smoked and died at 84, so nothing guaranteed.

Thankyou, that does mean something.
I wished the govt would just ban them then there is no messing around. All non smokers would agree, and 90% of smokers would too. Just an outright ban, period.

My brother, age 52, has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks ago because of smoking and COPD. His oxygen level got so low they had to hospitlize him. Hopefully, this will force him to quit smoking as well.
And, don't fool yourself into thinking you're good to go if you quit by your 40's; my mother quit, but too late, her lungs were shot and developed lung cancer 5 years later.
I cannot stress strongly enough: if you love your family, quit for their sake.

Yeah, cancer can get you anytime, for any reason, These days bad diet is as risky as smoking, type 2 diabetes is a nasty one. SO I put my faith in red wine, garlic, good eating, veg, salads and greens to keep me going! That's one thing in my favour, I have always eaten well.

I don't shy away from fatty food, buttery sauces, blue cheeseetc, love it. But I hardly never eat sugar, I really don't have a sweet tooth, but all I eat is made fresh, with lots of the supposedly good ingredients, garlic, olive oil, fish, greens etc.
I went to the docs last year, had a bp of 104 over 57, OK, I was a bit relaxed, its normally a bit higher than that and had my cholesterol done a few years ago, it was bang on normal, so I think my diet is sustainable.

Some years ago I got into the successful habit of only smoking when I went to the pub. I did it for years, only smoked when I drank beer in pubs. I was also cycling a lot at the time, I lived in Belgium, and felt good.
Since then I have fond that with stress I started to smoke all the time, but I have been getting really sick of it this last year. It has truly started to nauseate me so I have been looking for an excuse for a while. and also right now I am in a fairly non stressful situation.
The odd thing though, is that smoking actually stimulates you and so doesn't relieve stress at all. So god knows why we turn to a fag in times of stress. Weird.

I quit for 20 years, then I started occaisionally like you, when I was having a beer or two. Guess I need to stay away from the bar.

Anyway, put on weight and had a cough for ages. Also, I quit cold turkey. Just stopped one Thursday afternoon in September. Got in my car and went to light up. Decided I didn't want to do it anymore and have not smoked since. Have never even craved ne and I'm not all that bothered if others smoke around me though I do hate the smell.
Good luck: it's never too late to quit. Except, of course, if you are on your death bed. Not going to help you at that point.

Works well doesn't it? In a few weeks it will be a year since I had a cold, stopped smoking and did not buy any more tobacco since then. Instead, I now spend that money on building and flying model helicopters.

Tobacco was my thing too, roll ups. Still, even when I smoked them I could feel my energy being sapped.
Its a real killer, and owrse than that, its a shadow life. A real waste of time. If you smoke, just do it properly and kill yourself, If not, then live!
