He has a mountain bike. And a BMX. Three skateboards, two or three scooters, his own skatepark (well, four or five ramps) and spends much of his free time playing outside with his friends, or down the beach surfing or body-boarding, or playing soccer.
So rather than being a smarmy git, why not answer the question or just don't respond at all ?

Because we live in a culture when a 2 year old has a ipad or similar (and yes i know a guy with 2 children buying for each of them ipads )
I believe that the ipad is not a good gift for a child yes its shiny and it can do many things like for example cheat in school. You are giving him a great example and opportunity. But what actually he can do with it which really matters to him and showing off is not a valid answer. Does he really needs it ?
I wrote my answer only to suggest a better gift(in my opinion) and it was with no intention to tell you what to do. I just replied topic and in any case it was not written with squinty look and/or a superior smile on my face and i don't even know what git means.

He's not allowed any electronic equipment at his school - and in schools where devices are allowed they're not used for 'cheating' - often they use them for giving out resources such as course notes, videos etc. which is actually far more cost effective than providing copies for each child, and much harder for the children to misplace.

I was having a particularly bad day, yesterday, and you took the brunt of my frustration at work, for which I apologise.
However, I am sick and tired of people online not actually answering a question - your answer was typical of many a Q&A answer.

Whereas the better answer would be

Possibly because he wanted to warn you that all of that's gonna get completely ignored once he gets his tablet. That's pretty much what happened when my sister's ex gave one to his kid (he's 9). He also used to spend a lot of time playing cards and traditional board games with his grandparents--now his attitude is pretty much to hell with them, unless he forgets to bring it.

I bought my brother an HP Slate 7. Lovely little device. He put it in a draw to mature for a few years while he sends his 10 year old PC out to be 'repaired' by the local 'little man in the shop'.
That will save him from upgrading windows for almost a month.
You can lead a twit to a tablet, but in the end they really should have had the mountain bike.

Nice!
But there is a problem. Look at the 8451 pixels from the left and 1244 from the top, that pixel seems out of place. I think it should be an easy fix.

I really like Windows 8. It has made me more productive at work, and is more intuitive to use that earlier versions of Windows, or Max OS or Android or Ios.
It looks and feels like a grown-up operating system and, as a developer, features such as opening the desktop with no 'hourglass' when I run some apps and just opening full screen for others opens some doors for us in product development.
The ease of use whether using keyboard/mouse or touch screen or a combination is so intuitive that our users don't even notice the transition and never have problems accidentally scrolling when they meant to swipe to close, or have issues trying to position the mouse in the corner of multiple desktops!
Well done Microsoft - this is the future of the desktop and the tablet, rolled into one.
