Could be a cultural thing... Every time I deal with some of our international customers (I won't name anyone), we get interesting English (although, I'm sure they find American English to be odd as well).

On a realistic note, I think it just grew out of escallation.
early on someone posted "Urgent Please!"
Someone else did "Urgent PLZ" becasue they didn't know how to spell please
and so it escalated - with people copying (from memory) otehr people's words, in anotehr language, until it became a meme in its own right.

I blame Hollywood's representation of hackers and their use of leet speak.(Which I probably misspelled.)

The bad spelling comes from it being the 'Internet generation' who see forums and blogs all over the place where spelling and grammar are optional. 'Plz' is a pretty common spelling.
I suspect the 'it's urgent' is cultural (Indian vs western) – saying something's urgent when asking for help here makes you look needy and rude, presumably it doesn't over there.

Just to add: have you noticed that these tend to come from people with "dramatic" usernames?

Over the last couple of years, don't ask me why, I've been posing as 20-something Malaysian girl on Facebook. I friended someone just to get the conversation rolling, but after about 4 weeks he started getting hot'n'heavy. I allowed things to escalate I'm afraid and he's determined to emigrate and start a life with me. I doubt he'll be amused when we meet, especially when he sees what is swinging between my legs (ironically a source of great mirth for all the ladies that have seen it).
How do I sort this mess?

First of all, lets cut back on the crack pipe. NOTHING before breakfast, then no more than 2 rocks on the morning and two in the afternoon. That should quieten down the urges.
