I can't remember last time I rebooted! ^^
Not even at night, just go to sleep....
Maybe this is Windows 8 effect?

oh the horror, Suffice it to say every computer will need rebooted once in awhile. I love the Apple iPhonantics who say their phone never needs rebooted and then a day later or I have to reboot. I have one of those phancy iOS devices it gets itself rebooted about once a month on lite usage.
My android Note2 yeppers it gets rebooted at least once a week. I use it constantly.
My Linux server at home? once in a great while. but then again it isn't used much.
My work Windows 7 butt kicker I use for 10 hours a day hard. Once a week.
My personal windows 8 surface pro2. once every other week or so. again lightly used but more than the iOS device.
so suffice it to say I believe that depending upon usage you probably reboot any operating system depending upon usage at about the same rate.
All of my machines have rebooted at very improper times. The only good thing I see about this is Windows at least gives me the option of saying. "Notify me but don't download and don't apply until I tell you too". Seriously any half serious computer geek should always get this option and take it. my Note doesn't allow this. My iPad just about doesn't on occasion. Sooo, for that reason alone I do prefer the windows machine. But seriously they all kind of suck at this.

There seemed to be a noticeable reduction in the number of restarts required when it first came out, but that then seemed to climb again.
Maybe it's the nature of the bugs being found and fixed...

The premise in the article you linked may be correct in that files that need updates may be in use. But the solution is wrong!
It's about time Program patch managers learned the decades-old lessons from graphics programming and animation: use double buffering! I. e. install a shadow copy of the patched program in the background and just switch to it whenever the time is 'right' - i. e. 'right' for the user!

Just driven four 12 year old girls, none of whom I'm related to*, who had been drinking energy drinks, through a forest.
Didn't understand anything they said, as well as the constant chatter (turns out they can all talk at the same time as each other without losing comprehension) they were all texting each other simultaneously. Lots of giggling.
Got to go and get them back in 3 hours, can't imagine it being any better.
* you could say one of them is my common law step niece.

At what point does the expense of trying to retrieve this flight outweigh the benefit of finding it?
Last I heard it was in water far deeper than any of our robots can descend - how many millions will be spent trying to salvage that which cannot be salvaged? It seems to me that as a species we're hesitant to admit when nothing more can be done. Quit now, take 1/2 the money you save and give it to the families and move on already.
Sheesh.

That would make sense if there was any possibility that this was some type of malfunction.
At this point it is pretty clear that it was a deliberate act by a member of the crew/passenger.
The cost is expected to be in the range of hundreds of millions of dollars.
I think they want the on board tape because our governments are staffed by snuff film aficionados..

Another likely scenario was that there was a fire which possibly started in the nose wheel bay. Early reports seemed to indicate the pilot was returning to a different airport.
If the crew was overcome by smoke the plane would continue on that course until it run out of fuel. Remember nobody can access the flight deck since 9-11.

That's a fair point. I don't watch the news or read newspapers but I do check the headlines on a website or two most days. Make sure nothing that'll have a major impact on my life is happening.

It is an open incentive for a number of companies to try out new technologies (*) like sonars and submarines and other stuff like that,

Addendum:
When the Air France plane crash in the Atlantic a couple of years ago, they continue searching for the plane to find out why it has crashed and with all that they could fix all that can be fixed to try to limit the possibility of a same kind of crash.
I'd rather be phishing!
