Holy heck!
so, I'm all set to continue my marvellous article series n Android development - I've changed nothing since last time I finished off the first article, now, opening Eclipse crashes in a heap.
I'm sure with enough patience i could figure out what's wrong - google tells me that it cold be one of about a zilliion things.
I don't have the patience any more - what should have been a 30 minute development has now taken 3 hours, and I still can't open anything in Eclipse.
Bugger it.
I didn't want to enter the friggin' competition anyway!

Have you considered to move on to Android Studio[^]?
Or move back to older Eclipse (I'm using Kepler and no problems so far)...

I second the Android Studio and use Geny Motion[^] as emulator.

It seems to me that Android development is an absolute minefield as far as the IDE is concerned. I gave up on eclipse as I could never get the emulator to run. Now with Android studio it is only slightly easier because so many people are publishing articles, help is at hand.

Eclipse is only useful if you have a full time Eclipse configuration person.

Mine will lock up on occasion (I think I know what is causing it but know of no cure) and what I have to do to get it running again is:
1) Move all projects from my android\workspace folder to some temporary location.
2) Delete the android\workspace\.metadata file.
3) Start Eclipse. This should be rather quick since no projects are having to be processed.
4) Once it settles down, close Eclipse normally.
5) Start Eclipse.
6) Click File --> Import, and select "Existing Android Code Into Workspace".
7) Browse to the temporary location from step 1.
8) Select projects to be imported, check "Copy projects into workspace" and click Finish.
This always works for me.

I recently modified the make file (linker only) to pull in the .so files needed for talking to a Postgres server in C++ on a BeagleBone Black, and while the code works, I lost the ability to debug. Debug now crashes. Can't say that the fault lies specifically with Eclipse, but it's annoying as hell.
Every day I work on this stuff I miss C# and .NET more and more. Working with libpq is like going back to the stone ages. Couldn't get libpqxx to compile -- some error about a missing destructor when the damn thing is right there in the header file. Error messages that make produces have error numbers that are meaningless, etc. I honestly find it hard to imagine that I actually worked once in C++ and with having to explicitly call out linkages, dependencies, and so forth in the code and make files. My god, it's archaic. I'd even rather program in Ruby! And then of course, the Eclipse IDE is so pathetic. I have half a mind of slapping together a mini-IDE that at least has some minimal behaviors that I want, using #D's editor as a basis.

The Chauffeur we mentioned earlier is on his way to collect me.
Should be a spacious ride home, only 11 of 19 seats used. get some  in on the way back.
All going well I should be back at home by 4.30 and commence 3 weeks of R&R.......(no not rest and relaxation as it should be, but repairing things and ranting).
Grumpy dad is heading home.......
