I have misplaced a button in the designer - the one that displayed the form in its current state and allowed simulated button clicks, checkbox checks, etc.
It was there in 2003 (and I think in 2005) but I've misplaced it in 2008. It there one? If so, where is it?

How would we know where you put it?
I actually don't know what button you're talking about. Then again, I haven't done windows forms in a long, long time.

Like a preview form option? I think you're either making this up or had a VS add-in.

I first used it, out of the box, in VS 4, then in VS 6, and then (I think) in VS 2003. Somewhere along the line the preview form button went away or became hidden. If it's the latter, I'd sure like to know where MS hid it.
It was useful to see how the form would look in the current version without having to add the glue. It was especially useful in showing a customer/client what a page would look like. Much better than PowerPoint. Too the customer/client could suggest changes to the form and they could be made on the spot. If the revised form didn't meet expectations, then tweaking could also be done on the spot.

I remember something exactly like that, but I think it was for MFC, not Windows Forms.

Never did MFC only WinForms. It was a feature of the VS Designer.

I remember it from VS6 but that was C++ MFC, and yes, very handy. I use VS2005 frequently (WinForms) but I don't recall it being there. If you've used in WinForms it must be in VS2003 as you've said. I pretty much get the form ready and test it by running it before any of the controls are wired up (except the "Close" button.)

I just emailed the company with his behavior. It rather disgusts me, the same message on several articles dealing with XML/XSD.
