It's pretty insane
Governments seem to have gone from knowing nothing about computers to still knowing nothing about computers, and breaking every computer related law as a result

Laws doesn't apply to governments.

Just learn to accept that every government knows every detail about your life. Its a big pill to swallow but once its done - it's done! I for one welcome our new overlords!

I know of a web-site that's collected personal details of almost 11 million developers...

Hmmm, ok. I did a search before I posted it and didn't get any results for "Facekini".

Hi - I wanted to share an opportunity I think some (hopefully all) of you will find interesting. MasterCard is bringing their developer challenge, MasterCard N>XT, back to Toronto from October 4-5 at MaRS. This year developers are being challenged in groups of 3-5 to build cutting edge retail solutions. Thirty teams will be accepted to N>XT this year and will be competing for $30,000 and more in prizing. Teams will be working with wearable SDKs from our partners (like Bionym and Samsung) and MasterCard APIs. Registration closes September 18

Why not do a developer challenge that would be more practical? "Develop a CC system that prevents card theft"? Or better yet:
"In conjunction with NORAD, develop a cyber-attack monitoring system that automatically launches a small tactical nuke at the physical address of the attacker?"
Like what we really need is more "cutting edge" retail solutions that merely add further exposure to an already bad system. Cutting edge - yeah, riiight.

I haven't had coffee yet but sounds like a way to snag new ideas using cutting edge technology for very cheap.
