Way back when, I was thinking about joining the Air Force to become a pilot. I wanted to know whether I could pass the vision requirements before I even tried. On a lark, I walked into my dad's Ophthalmologist office and the doctor just happened to be at the receptionist's desk. I asked him about this and he volunteered to give me a free eye exam. I never even identified my self, he was doing this for someone who just wanted to go fly. During the exam he determined that I had excellent vision (20/15), but he said that he could detect a slight astigmatism in my left eye. He went to his filing cabinet (this was in 1959) and dug around a bit, and then asked me if I was the son of one of his patients, and he pulled out my father's card! The 20/15 comment came about when he had me read the smallest projected chart, and I could read it completely, and I even commented that I thought there was a much smaller number in the lower right corner of the image, and I thought it said "15G" or something (I have forgotten the exact slide number - that was a looong time ago and that number was not important). The doctor had to walk half way up to the screen to verify that I was correct!
I have never forgotten that doctors name, Dr John E. VanSuch.
Oh, By the way, the doctors office was just around the corner from the military recruiting office.

Weird thing is that was posted when very tired. Please see my later post today awoke with all limbs attached, breathing independently, day can't be all bad! BTW I wanted to fly in the air force or navy (UK) but two things happened, my eyes went side ways and I grew too tall!

I had read that already, but saw the mention of the eye problem and thought I'd tell you that you are not alone. We all get lots of things from our parents, but fortunately, we only inherit insanity from our children.

My Dad's eyes were worrying me, my Granddad went blind from a similar problem so eye sight has always been a major concern for me. Sorry.

Making license plates is fine, but they need to learn CSS first--- otherwise, on some cars the numbers and letters will be all smooshed up on the left side, on others they might be too tiny to read or too big to fit, and on others they might be randomly floating around in who-knows-what order.

 You're right; making license plates without learning Cold Steel Stamping would be difficult. 
Edit: Actually since I'm not sure about the details of the process, maybe that should be Cheap Steel Stamping.

Where's that? Other than temporaries for new cars I don't think I've ever seen a plate without raised numbers/letters.

There is nothing new here. I was teaching computer basics, including programming, to inmates at an open prison in England as part of a rehabilitation scheme as a moonlighting job back when I was a university professor in the early 1980s. One of my students went on to take a Computer Science degree course at a leading university (not mine).
