Marriage is not natural. That is why you have to force it to work. When a man and woman or "partners" decide they are done forcing, then that becomes divorce/breakup.

You're right in the fact that most people just aren't happy in one and that's not natural, but it can work. The way I see it is it's a feminine thing. Masculine energy wants to roam free. Either the man or woman can take on the masculine role since someone has to in a couple. Feminine energy is so wrapped up in their partner they'd never think of straying, the exact opposite of masculine. And yes, either the man or woman can take that role too.

The problem arises because most people tie the knot without enough relationship experience to find out who they are compatible with. They don't get the wild out of their system. Etc. There are even women out there that don't like, but still understands a man's need to roam the streets. And of course, wonderfully awesome bi chicks that are willing to join in the extra marital fun with you.

So while I do think life-long lock down isn't natural as you do, it can work. And it would work a lot better if more people knew more about relationships. That being said, I'm not getting married any time soon. Smile | :)

Fair enough, but I get along with the right women great. So living with them wouldn't be a problem. Of course I'd still get away to go do manly stuff. That's the key though, the right women. The wrong type of person will drive you up a wall.

The longest I've lived with a woman that was a girlfriend was 7 years. It sucked, we argued a fair amount. But, I know it also had more to do with me being immature (and her too) than anything else. Not saying I'd ever do it again, so I totally see your point. But, I'm older and wiser now and think I could do a better job at finding someone I'm more compatible with, assuming she has a twin sister.

Few animals are naturally monogamous; primates aren't one of them. And there's no reason a particular marriage has to be monogamous.

People say that, and yet they all get married. So while I agree with what you're saying, it's hard to listen to it if it's coming from someone married (don't know if you are or not) or coming from guys that have little to no relationship experience (like most programmers; again not saying that's you).

I know part of the reason it sucks it because of the lack of relationship experience. Most men don't understand women and most women don't understand men. Most tie themselves down before even shopping. A life-long commitment with lack of experience on what you're getting into is a great recipe for trouble regardless if animals do it or not.

Keep in mind I have no kids and never been married. Ha ha.

Oh, and I totally agree with that. The best women understand a man's need to roam free IMO. The problem arises from deceit about it. Women care about intimacy and connection in a relationship a LOT. That goes out the window when a guy lies about what he does in his off time. Not every women goes for it. Some want to be a part of it. But yeah, I totally agree with that.

Are you a practicing Christian, by chance? Marriage is not always the right (correct) thing to do. It is if you are religious.

edit - a couple can live many happy years together, without being married. Some say that it is easier to be with someone if you are not "married".

You are correct in your "inference". My marriage has had some very rough moments, of which, I almost quit. For whatever reasons, the wife and I are doing great, our children are great, and I "would not" want to be without them.
