Went down to the playground with the kids to let them play off some energy, just to find it thoroughly covered in broken glass. Extra effort made underneath the slides and swings.
Kids forgot it after two minutes, as a discovery walk was just as much fun.
All I can say is, have a Very Merry Christmas! Or celebration of your own choice.

Too bad about the playground, it's disappointing to see what crap people can think of to do to other people. Glad your day was not spoiled.

Hooligans of "night-before" revelry breaking bottles in the playground are the windless-alley-trees of living between life's skyscrapers. They should be topped, or better yet, dragged as stumps from the inter-building space by a long chain from a backhoe in the street to be left on the sidewalk for free pickup by city refuse managment to be recycled down at the landfill.
But this is Christmas, a high holiday, and where would making talk of such a grim nature be appropriate?
Merry Christmas to all and may all your alley-trees reach such heights that they keep from cracking in the trunk from ever increasing narrow-limbed-mass-arabesque-addition, to overtop the tallest buldings and spread like fat vines from building to building, sprinting now in the bright light under the feet of the chimney sweeps, roof to roof, a-going, practicing their dusty black craft.

Hi All,
Just how many sarnies can you eat in 48 hours, just got back from a super market (despite all my protests!) and I am still amazed by the fact a large number of people are stocking for the siege of Stalingrad, Zombie Apocalypse & Invasion from Mars. How bread and milk can you use?

I never heard the term "sarnies" before and it apparently refers to sandwiches[^]. Why would you stock up on those though? I could understand if people would buy just more of the normal stuff to cook things but sandwiches? I mean you could then just as well call the delivery guys instead

I don't shop on Christmas Eve - I've seen it far too many times before.
And here Tesco is shut for 48 hours, but Asda is open Boxing day, for 6 hours.
But...I've seen what you mean.
People with two trolleys: one containing a turkey the size of the ISS (guaranteed not to defrost in time or fit in the oven), Potatoes by the megagram, enough sprouts to sink a battleship - and a second trolley just for bread. Why? I assume there is a traditional sexual practice involving bread and part-cooked fowl of which I am (thankfully) unaware...

I try not to, had to pick up Turkey. Got Turkey early last year smelt funny Xmas morning so got chucked.  Got fresh one and card from Tesco (?), the trolley for bread ? why??

There are only the two of us, so I do a turkey breast rather than a whole bird - and it goes in the sous vide so I vacuum pack it and freeze it at the beginning of November. I'll take it (and the rest of the Christmas frozen food bag) out of the freezer in a couple of hours to defrost in the Cat Proof Defrost Cage - or "the microwave" as some call it.

It's quite expensive to get into - I think I spent around £300 or so on the oven (Sous Vide Supreme Demi) and vacuum packing kit (Food Saver V2860), plus I spend about £30 per year on vacuum sealing rolls.
But...it cooks cheap Beef joints beautifully! Chuck it (still frozen) in the oven when you go to bed on Saturday, turn it on and set it for 54.5C and forget it until 18:00 Sunday. Soft, tender, juicy.
Steaks are wonderful.
Burgers! Yes!
Chicken for chinese? Oh yes!
Leg of lamb? Blurghhhh....slimy, and like eating baby food. Very, very nasty. May experiment with lamb steaks but not with a whole / half leg again.
And having the vacuum sealer is excellent: because it excludes the air, the food lasts longer in the freezer (they say up to two years, rather than two months) and takes up less space. And you can use it to reseal packs - good for crisps, nuts, pasta and other dried foods.

No, I have a single breast, not a crown. That is already over a kilo of meat, and since there are just the two of us and nobody wants to
A) Eat the damn legs anyway
B) Eat turkey until the end of January
A breast is the least I can get away with!
Even then, we'll be eating it for a couple of days in curries, pies, ...
