When you pay too much tax to the taxman who then gives you back your money with no interest why do most people think that is good?
I aim to pay less tax during the year so that the taxman has basically been giving me an interest free loan which I repay at the end of the year.
It has always puzzled me that people think getting a tax refund is a good thing.

Wait until the taxman bills you for a tax you never owed in the first place and you battle it in court. The taxman is ordered to repay the money with interest. The next five years are spent in court battling over bills for the interest you received in the initial settlement... and the next... and the next... You get the picture.
The difficult may take time, the impossible a little longer.

Hello all,
Some of you will remember my questions about a PSU, GPU and a motherboard that was not compatible (bios software issue) with the recently bought graphics card.
After upgrading the graphics card in my brother in law's computer he has to make some strange steps to be able to start the computer (like pressing F12 just before the BIOS post is shown, wait two minutes, keep ESC key pressed until the computer goes into PXE mode boot and then wait for it to fail; after that the computer boots up correctly...  ).
In order to avoid that, yesterday I went to the shop with his father with the firm intention to buy some thermal paste and a brand new motherboard just to avoid those initial steps.
Just to avoid compatibility issues I printed down all the PC specs and went to the shop.
Once there and showing the guy in the shop the motherboard specs he told me it was impossible to change that motherboard without changing all the other things too (processor and fan) because the form factor of the motherboard itself and the slot for the processor is not compatible with the normal ones as the one in my brother inlaw computer is an HP one which is not compatible with anything...

I guess this is a normal uATX motherboard with a normal CPU socket type LGA 1155... given those two specs, shouldn't any motherboard that have the same form factor and the same CPU slot work?
Let me put it simple: wouldn't this one be compatible? http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H61M-VG4/[^]
What do you think? should that proposed model (asrock) work inside my inlaw computer keeping the current fan, processor and other components?

Do not go to that shop anymore...
It is a standard miroATX with with LGA1155, so in the basic level there are thousand of boards can replace it...
However, theory alone and practice alone...You have to check all the existing parts you have in the old computer against the new motherboard...
1. CPU (not only socket, but clock speed too)
2. Memory
3. Any card (including your new graphics)
4. HDD/SSD
5. Any other hardware directly connected to the motherboard(?)
You have to check not only the basic physical support but energy and BIOS support too (like it is not enough that the board supports DDR3 but you actually have to check about symmetry and ECC/nonECC and so)
So the board you found should be a good replace but you have to check further...

That's what I thought but you know... this is not what I'm doing continuously (in fact the last time I fiddled with mother boards and processors was years ago) and after hearing that guy I decided to search a little bit more about it.

In the last 10 years I used to assemble my computers form hand-pick parts, so learned (by the prize of several burned parts) to take care all the details, and not to believe the shops, but more the warehouses used to repair computers - they know better (and have better prizes...)

Hi again,
Given:
- CPU should be ok i5 quad core gen 2 looks like is supported ( Supports 3rd and 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7 / i5 / i3 / Xeon® / Pentium® / Celeron® in LGA1155).
- Memory should be ok (both non-ecc same kind and speeds).
- HDD should be OK any old sata hdd should work without issues.
- I could lose the front SDCARD slot (not an issue).
- I probably will keep two USB ports in front of the box (it looks the same connectors are present) (not an issue too).
I have one question:
- GPU? how can I be sure that this motherboard will work with that GPU?
-- one of the advantages of changing the motherboard will be the fact the PCIe slot will be 3.0. Shouldn't it work? (and yes, I know this is what happened with the old motherboard, but, how can I check it?).

It seems that 3.0 PCIe supported only with 3rd generation of i5...However it seems that the board supported anyway...

I'm 99% sure the front SD slot is connected via a standard mobo USB2 header; in which case you should be fine unless the case also has 4 front panel USB ports. The new board appears to only has 2 USB headers; while the HP board's specs seem to imply it has 3 headers, or it could be 3 front panel USB ports and the SD reader in place of port 4 (2 ports/header).

The One thing I noticed from the two Picture is that the new motherboard had the extra square power connector and I did not see it on the old board, so will the power supply support the new board?

I guess it will suport it as the PSU has been changed for a newer and bigger one...
But which connector do you mean? I've not seen any difference in terms of power connectors...

The PSU was already changed and there are free cables there but in the HP board there is the same connector (middle/left of the board between the blue connector and the processor slot).
Is that one the one you were referring to?

Ah, for 10 more years, I look forward to you adding comments about your brother in-laws computer 
About the BIOS booting up in error. See if the BIOS has a motherboard based Video Card.
If so, Disable that. Usually the Hanging BIOS is caused by POST process...
Also, if the Video is Motherboard based, you might have to simply change its interrupts if it does not allow it to be disabled.
One way to verify this is to try to use both connectors to drive 2 monitors... See if it boots differently....
