This is going to blow your mind, but if we take the alphabet and convert the letters to numbers, A = 1, B = 2, etc. and we take the letters from HORSES, but change it to HROSES (H-ROSE, get it!?), and GEMS then we'd get to the following:
H - 1 = G
R - O = C
C + 2 = E
S - E = N
N + 1 = M
S = S
GEMS! It all makes perfect sense.
