There wasn't one that fitted the very strict criteria. There were a couple that I liked but that's not the point. Who knows what the morrow will bring.

Meanwhile somebody in the Guardian this morning said they'd never heard of this track[^] nor its creators. I don't believe it!

Ask anyone not living in the Nether lands if they can name a Dutch rock band.
Very few can come up with anything other than Golden Earring, if at all.

Now we know why, BOOOORING!
I mean seriously, Scorpions are making fun uptempo songs in comparison. (Some of them really are actually, but that's completely besides the point I was trying to make)

Harsh words and, luckily, not true!
I'm going to ignore your opinion on Monomyth, I'll just say it's not supposed to be fun uptempo.

So none other than Golden Earring!?
As far as I know the only Dutch band to ever score a #1 hit in America is Shocking Blue with Venus[^] (just like Golden Earring and Monomyth also from The Hague).
And if that doesn't rock enough for ya here's an awesome live performance of Hocus Pocus by Focus[^] (on international television)! Their guitarist, Jan Akkerman, was considered best guitar player in the world at the time! Their singer, Thijs van Leer, also got much international recognition.
And what about George Baker[^]!? Everybody knows George Baker (they just don't know he's Dutch) Big Grin | :-D

Other Dutch pop bands that have enjoyed some international fame include Q65, Earth & Fire, and The Cats.
And the Van Halen brothers, Alex and Eddie, were born in the Dutch city of Nijmegen and lived in the Netherlands for the better part of their childhood (before moving to America and making music there)!

Currently we're doing pretty well in the international DJ scene with #1 DJ in the world Tiësto, and others like Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Fedde le Grand, and Afrojack.
We also helped shape the symphonic/gothic rock and metal scene with acts such as The Gathering, After Forever, Within Temptation, and Epica.
We're also well represented in all kinds of sub-genres, such as black, death, and doom metal, electronic, and dance music.

So maybe it's you who should do your homework before insulting an entire nation about their music Smile | :)

But never the less I believe it to be more or less true.

Let's skip those DJ's as they aren't rock bands as I stated.
And seriously, none of the others you have mentioned have registered with me except Van Halen. And they do count as 'mercans for most people.

Perhaps you knew Sweden has their own death metal sound pioneered by bands such as Entombed, Dismember, Unleashed, and Grave?
And then there's the more melodic Gothenburg death metal, such as In Flames, and At The Gates.
The Swedish black metal is also a little different from the Norwegian neighbors.
Sweden serves us well with other bands such as Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Hypocrisy, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Watain... Smile | :)

Your electronic/pop music scene is also not bad!

I'm fully aware that we have a very live and well death metal scene here. I've actually been working with the mother of one of the members of In Flames, for what it's worth. Roll eyes | :rolleyes:

You also forgot to mention Millencollin, Therion and not the least Candlemass. So ok they're a different kind of metal, but worth to mention still.

And while Death metal isn't really my cup of tea I do like to listen to In Flames, Amon Amarth and Meshuggah.

So not just punk rock but also including (without excluding) rockabilly, punkabilly, psychobilly and bluegrass[^].

That sketch is a master-class in comic genius. I saw it on a clip-show presented by the pair (obviously when both were still alive) and Barker said he was unhappy with the ending but didn't really know how to end it any better. It was only later that a better ending came to him...the original shopkeeper storms off and gives the list to the off-screen assistant, who comes on to reveal themselves to be a large-bosomed women. She looks at the list and asks the customer "What kind of knockers would you like?"
