The closest DB I could use would be Mongo, which I am using in places. This is in an experimental piece however and I want to try it out as it means I can get rid of some clunky conversions.

It's one of those 'if I can be bothered'. The idea is to take this[^] and make it persited so that it can be used to easily store and retrieve things between sessions.
In the current version of the DataSet, it can be saved to and read from a text file as well as pushed through a binary stream. What I am working on is the ability for it to work like a classic key/value store. It deserves an article, but there is a bucket load of other stuff I am working on that takes priority; sometimes people pay for this stuff.

Beacuse it means: make your design simple enought to become hellish when we'll decide to support x, y and z.
Happens to me all the times... that's why I either silently ignore him and design for those features (maybe not implementing them) or I play the "dumb employee" and follow him through. After all they pay me the same exact amount each month, with no benefits nor bonusses if things go well or malusses if things go bad.
