I am trying to understand how crystal report work in order to call a an "rpt" file in my .net project, below is a link I found explaining crystal report.

can anyone tell me what exactly they mean by Crystal reports merge module?

Try having to do Crystal Reports in VB.Net! 
Contract I had some years ago, seemed their reports were taking longer and eating more resources. Turns out that the CR reports were aggregating data across all of their data in their main transactional DB (and re-aggregating every time the report is run). Then not archiving old data no longer required for the reports (over 10 years worth)...

Me? I gave up on it many years ago when I thought to try it in some early Visual Studio. A co-worker recommended it - he used it with Visual FoxPro (warning enough?).
Anyway, when I found out that I couldn't modify values at runtime (e.g., a caption with a user's name) I did a good-riddance. Eventually I started to use the 2-D Drawing tools and all has been well, since.

btw my question will definitely lead to technical question as I have mentioned I am working on a project. but if you can't wait, I can not do anything and will not get help.

Who chooses CrystalMeth anymore? You can generate FAR superior content using raw HTML and some wizzy CSS. There is nothing in CrystalMeth that you cannot do less painfully using raw queries and some mark-up.
Ditch the useless crutch, CrystalMeth is for retardon MBA Wuckfits who do not understand how a computer works beyond a fanboyz Pavlovian reaction to shiney.
I had to use CrystalMeth in the past, but I'm in recovery.

I, for myself, is happy to have a boss who purchased a DevExpress License. Their XtraReports are very nice, and have very few (if any) pitfalls. And it was by far cheaper than developing it on our own.
