After more remote testing and fixing tonight I had her test it. She only used Firefox even though I asked for IE as well. Then I'm informed it's the whole computer that freezes.
None of this was explained when on site last week for 6 hours. I was explicit in my questions. The computer had no issues (besides Windows Module Installer) while I was there.

I think it may be a good idea to have, when it comes to fixing computer problems, some sort of (KSS!) wife-swapping with programmers. Rumor has it they're nicer to strangers.

Sometimes doing the following fixes a host of problems:
0. Run "services.msc"
1. Stop "Windows Update Service"
2. Stop "Background Intelligent Transfer Service"
3. Delete the directory: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
4. Open Control Panel - Windows Update (it will say it has never gotten updates, that info was stored in the deleted directory)
5. Get updates.
6. Be happy

How about:
1. Don't worry.
2. Be happy.
No updates means no new breakages. You can get security fixes without wupdate.

The reason is that the executable has the same name for every version of VS - devenv.exe... The update process blocks that...

Indeed, which is why I allowed the update to run.
But had I known it would block me out for 40 minutes, I'd much rather do it as the last thing at work so that I could start the update and go home.

I just keep 2015 up-to-date and use that for everything.

It seems Windows 10 Anniversary Edition can cause your computer to freeze if you have more than one drive installed. I suppose MS will bring out a fix for this bug, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. In my household it happened on my wife's computer, but not mine  Go figure! We both have dual drives, but in my case both drives are fast SSDs. Maybe that makes a difference?

Well at least I know that I was not the only one to battle with the freeze issue! It seems it is quite common? Way to go Microsoft.

It was confirmed by Microsoft almost a month ago (10th of August). It was addressed as 'small', but still addressed in the 31th of August update...
What I found funny, is that Microsoft originally suggested - as a quick solution - to move applications to the same drive where Windows installed... I was thinking how one can move Office or Visual Studio, without reinstalling of course...

Well, it seems some of us did not see the notification from MS. (That includes me.)
Thanks for letting us know the bug was fixed August 31. It means I can retry the Anniversary Edition on my wife's computer.
