I figured we'd had too many really really easy ones (because people didn't want to do them the next day) so I'd have a proper think about a couple and try to get them "right".
I didn't think this or yesterday's was particularly difficult - but obviously I'm wrong...

Reminds me of one of mine on my list. I made it up but forget to write the answer down. When I check the list months later it take me a couple of hours to work it out again.

The US should simply tell the bank to pay the fine to EU and that they'll collect DB's fine instead from Apple.

Definitely. The net result would be DB paying tax in EU, and Apple paying tax in the US.

One big difference in the fines . . .

DB took part in a morally criminal enterprise from the world is still recovering. Really, if the EU thinks Apples deserving of a $14B fine for entering into an agreement with a sovereign government than Deutsche Bank should pay many times that amount.

I'll give you this, going back on the Ireland/Apple deal is sub optimal. But from the EU point of view having had to bailout Ireland in 2010 worth of 85B, the EU figured it had to have a closer look at where all this money was going. So Ireland was kinda sovereign, but not so sovereign when it needed 85B.

Actually, amused.
Don't you see? the bigger picture? It's a new version of a trade war! The overseas competitors will be driven out of the country by excessive fines through the legal system. It's much like keeping products out with tariffs!

Definitely seems they're trading blows at the moment. Not as much a trade war, but a war of governments trying to recuperate some of the tax payer money from big corps and banks that went into bailouts.
