Help me out, I haven't had enough coffee yet to think it through. Why would a number of axles > 256 not also reset it when the counter reached 256?

I just happened to notice on a provider that their acceptable use policy sets a limit on the number of files that can be stored under one of their packages. The limit is 262,144 which is 2^18.
It comes across as a very arbitrary number, but must be tied into some sort of file system allocation limit. I suspect some form of *nix box. Having dug around various links on the net, I have failed yet to find any reason why they have come up with this number.
I'm just curious, but any one any ideas where this limit is tied to?

file-max is not the limit for files, but for open file handles, and is usually constrained depending on system memory, which yields values typically from 20(devices) - 8096(servers).

The original question asked about the 'limit on the number of files'... file-max declares exactly that the number of files one can open in one login session...

Having tried the myriad variations of UHT and pasteurized milk they have here and having found them to be universally about as palatable as the Heart of Gold's tea, I have discovered a real dairy, right next to my daughters' school that sells raw milk.
It is easy enough to pasteurize, I have 3l on the go now, and it tastes so bally good you want to thank the cows personally. I can drink serious quantities of coffee again without getting queazy from the odd tasting white liquid we got before.

I may try butter, but first I want to gat my cheese and yoghurt production going.
I tell you one thing though, I may only buy 1 or 2 litre a day so that I can pasteurize every day. The smell is wonderful!

When we were kids my father, who was a dairy farmer used to bring home a billy of freah milk every night. It had the cream on top and never bothered with any pasteurisation. It just seemed normal in those days
That was proper milk. Today's milk tastes watered down and bland in comparison.

Snap. Except for me I had an after-school job bringing in the herd for the afternoon milking on a family friends farm. Used to ride home with a gallon of fresh milk slung over the handlebars. Mum made butter quite often. Them's the days.

If the dairy are willing to sell raw milk then they trust their hygiene practices - why would you then pasteurise it?
(Keep it in a glass container in the fridge - it will last quite well.)

I'll keep to pasteurizing it for now. We don't know the dairy and we don't know their standards. I would say that we could most probably drink it raw, but then I would need to buy it every day as I wouldn't be happy keeping it for long periods.
I am currently looking for good glass bottles for the very porpoise of storing the milk.

One of the truly weird things I saw on my first trip to the other side of the Atlantic was milk on a shelf and in a box. Having (long ago) abruptly lost my taste for milk (although not diairy!) I never had the stuff cross my gum and wallow in my gut.
Now that stuff is available in the US - aside from possible storage in an emergency shelter - I can't imagine why anyone would buy the stuff. Even camping - one of the things you did when you went camping was "you did without milk" (unless the Mrs. recently had a baby, and that was not very good for coffee).
Which, whilst we're not quite on the subject, have you considered adding Koumiss [^] to your milk product production?
