This is nothing new. In Vietnam, attacks were supposedly timed by the U.S. military so that the report about the attack could appear on the six o'clock news. 
More primitive technology, same idea.

Not necessarily a bad thing; also not de-facto good.
Up to Gulf I, the reporting of war generally relied on journalists being embedded within one or other force. During the Falklands, as a case in point, the BBC & ITV could only get their reports back to the UK via MOD satellite links and the Commander of the Task Force was not going to give up valuable bandwidth for anything showing them in a bad light.
Today anyone can be a frontline reporter; all you need is a mobile phone and a signal. This places a rather interesting pressure on Commanders in the Field as anything, and everything, can be reported without them having any control.
All things being equal, you'd think that Staff Command would understand and leverage this fact. Things are not equal and instead it is all poo-pooed as being propaganda from the other side.

New Dev Experience
After over 20 years of doing windows development and a couple years of Android, I have now jumped into iOS dev. It's interesting, because it's another new language (Swift) and OS and set of APIs and dev environment (XCode).
Tenacity
With software dev I often find that the most valuable thing is tenacity (some people call it grit or determination). Just don't give up. I'm now reading a fantastic book on the subject and thought I would share.

So last night at about 8pm I went over to the local Co-op to get some bits and bobs. Outside I bumped into the young barmaid from my local and her friend. I got invited back to a Party at hers which was full of Teenagers. I was given coke, MDMA and speed, although I did have to buy my own beer. I spent the whole night in the kitchen chatting sh*t to a 27 year-old lesbian (who I had seen in the pub earlier that day and on a few other occasions). We got on like a house on fire and was talking to 4.30 in the morning. I even spoke to her girlfriend in Twickenham, who had finished with her earlier in the day and got them back together. She is now my best friend and has been texting me all day. we are meeting up tonight. Arranging the technicalities of me being surrogate father to their kid (when I agreed last night it wasn't just drunk talk on her part, apparently). It does sound like I need to sleep with her, but unfortunately the other girl doesn't need to be there.
It's not just me though right?? Please tell me you get yourself in these situations when you nip out to the shops too?

Perhaps he's moved. His moniker would suggest Portsmouth. But both places being naval ports, offers like this are quite frequent in the pubs close to the bases.
