A bug has been found in Windows 2000 that means if a server attempts to host more than 51 IP addresses then Active Directory misplaces its directory objects. The situation is not a common one for the average user and will most likely only affect ISPs and large corporations. Microsoft has stated that the problem only affects machines that are Domain Controllers. See the article at BugNet, and Microsoft's KB article 'Q258811 - BUG: Windows 2000 LDAP API Cannot Bind to LDAP Servers, Including Windows 2000 Domain Controllers, with More Than 51 IP Addresses'.
