You should have some primary key field value in a HiddenField or something. So, if it is an existing record, you can get a Id which will be greater than 0, meaning a valid Id.

So, if Id is greater than 0, then update that record, else insert.

I guess you want to have some methods in a class file. So, create a class and write the methods there itself. Refer that class file (by "using" keyword) in other class files and invoke methods by creating instance of the common class.

Also if you want to have a custom one - Custom SqlHelper class in Csharp for your Database interaction
