Dear Brothers and Sisters

I have a USB Finger Print Device (UDR-200B), I am trying to develop an application by using VB.Net and SQL server to record finger print of a user and verified user based on stored finger print in database.

I stuck with it since last few weeks, is there any one who can help to get out from this critical situation.

I am developing this application for a student who can't wear the cost of paid SDK.

I was tried the example from http://www.devx.com/security/Article/31576/1954 but this is not working for me, I think this application is only for Microsoft finger print reader.

Please help me it is too urgent since the student must submit his project on 1 week of April.

Do you have the technical manual for the reader you are using? Incidentally, are you happy that this student is going to gain a degree based on not doing the work?

Read it! Or better still, tell your student friend not to be so lazy and do his/her own work.

How can anyone even begin to help you unless they know what your problem is?

Hi Rchards,

Thanks a lot for your quick and valuable response brother.

The problem is:
1) How to read the finger print image coming from finger print device and store it in database.
2) When next time user comes, system should authenticate the user based on his finger print stored in database .

As concern about student, he is developing a big application finger print authentication is only a part to authenticate user, he is working on other stuff without anyone's help.

Since I am developer so it also seems interesting to me.

If you can help me then this will be a great favor to me.

Yes I have both device and its manual, let me know what to do?

1. No idea, what does the manual tell you about reading the device? I assume it will give some binary image which you then store in the database, along with the user's id.
2. When the user next tries t login, you read the image from the database and compare with whatever is returned from the device.

Since you already have a sample program all you need to do is change the code that deals with the hardware interface.

I read the entire manual but still don't get any clue.
Is there any mechanism on the basis of that I can identify that whether an USB Finger Print device attached on port or not, if attached then how I can established a communication between my application and device.

Is there any one who can help me.

Sorry, but I have no idea, if the device is supposed to work with Windows then it should be "plug and play" enabled. That is, plug it in and Windows should recognise it and load its drivers. If not then you will have to check back with the manufacturer.
