ExtendScript Toolkit in Photoshop

Hi,
I am using ExtendScriptToolkit 1.0.3 and running script using Javascript.
I am getting error in following line :

var strtRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits

that preferences is undefined.

Please let me know why I am getting this error?

Any Help would be appreciated.

Its not the same question Mr Sandeep Mewara. Kindly look the scenarios where I am running these scripts.
Yesterday it was through HTML file, but today, i am running through Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit, which should not show this error.
Kindly read the questions completely before commenting.
