Assuming these are just dummy names, then they are different locations in the web.
Other than that, there is no obvious connection between them, they could be on the same machine, or on different sides of the world - the name does not tell you anything other than "this is a domain on the internet"

For abc.nifty.com, the third-level domain is abc, and for xyz.fm.com, the third-level domain is xyz. For abc.nifty.com, the second-level domain is nifty, and for xyz.fm.com, the second-level domain is fm. For abc.nifty.com, the top-level domain is com, and for xyz.fm.com, the top-level domain is also com.
