It does not work like this here.

Here is what is expected of enquirers:
1. TRY first what you want to do! You may find that it's not that hard.
2. Formulate what was done by you that looks like an issue/not working.

Try them and tell if you face issues.
Members will be more than happy to help like this.

We can't say exactly based on the amount of info you have given us: i.e. nothing about your login system.

But the normal pattern is that the "lost or forgotten password" form resets a password to a random value, and sends the new value to the email at which the user registered. Advanced versions send a link to a password reset page to the email address so that the original is not affected unless the original user confirms he forgot his password. The reset page link contains a random code which must be used to confirm the identity. The password is then set to a random value and the random value emailed to the user.

The essence is to not reveal the "old" password (which you shouldn't be able to do since you shouldn't store it in text at any time) but to get confirmation that the user making the request is the actual user who owns the account - hence the email(s).
