Comparision of user input through microphone and stored database of mp3 songs

I am taking input from microphone which has audio format(sample rate=44100 hz,mono etc..).
For creating databse of songs i am reading raw data from audio file using AudioInputStream.So is it necessary to first decode mp3 file in same audio format as user input or not required.
