whats the use of designin page in web service

Hi friends I'm new to web services
Just wanted to know that we pass parameters in web service(webservice1.asmx.cs) and get our desired results....
but whats the use of Design page(webservice1.asmx) in web service...?

but there must be some use of .asmx page that's why it is added.....!
