creating a sharepoint webpart in visual studio 2012

Just got a work to do for school which consists in creating a webpart to integrate in my school's intranet portal that lists information from a table in a database. does anyone have a tutorial or have done something similar that could guide me?. i've been programming in asp.net c# webforms for a while now so i have a somewhat good base.
