Just to set the scene, I am an IT professional of over 35 years and able to do COBOL mainframe programming, basic VBA, VB.net, database programming, etc., but I am fairly new to this Web design idea. I am long-term unemployed but have been told by 3 people I know that they could put freelance work my way if I could learn Javascript. I have started taking a free course at CodeAcademy.com, but have now been told that I may qualify for a Grant in order to undertake a paid course, though this would probably still have to be an online course, but one that has real people to talk to and learn from.

So my questions are ...

1) What are the best (English speaking) companies to approach that do these kind of courses ?

2) What are the order I should learn HTML, CSS & Javascript ? Have I missed anything ?

3) Where do the likes of Ajax, WampServer, WordPress, Sublime Text, Jquery, Node.JS come into consideration ? As I go along, early, when I am proficient ?!? These are things I have been told about by somebody who designs web-sites but who hasn't replied to me !!!

4) Is there anywhere that I can find some kind of a timetable or diary for how this learning curve should look ?

Thanks in advance for any answers to the above questions or for any help in general on this subject ...

That's right order. Start from HTML & go ahead with CSS, Javascript/jQuery.

And nowadays HTML5 & CSS3 rocks so step into those things once you done above things. After these things you should start learning "Responsive web design".
