How to read SMS from GSM modem using Java ?

Hello i am working in java language, i have one GSM modem (Siemens TC35). which hase 16 port,we can attach sim card in port,first of all i want to check whether sim card is attached in port or not?
if sim card is attached in port then i want to check how many sms are there in particular sim card.i have spend lots of time on this topic,kindlly tell me how to complete this task. which java library help to complete my module. thank you in advance..
