php vs wordpress, which one is more suitable

I guys I want to build a marketplace for tutors where they can upload their profile and information. Students who want to study a tutor can go there and find a suitable one. It will look very similar to this

I do not have any background in IT or coding whatsoever (just try wordpress lately) so I am not sure whether I should ask my friend to build it by php or wordpress. I have asked some of my friends and there are mixing opinions so I would really appreciate if someone can help me with this problem.

It's neither "IT" or "coding", this is software engineering. If you won't learn a good deal of it, nothing would be suitable for you. The question makes little sense, because you did not really conduct essential information on: "suitable for what"? Explanation of your application field is not informative enough. And, as it usually happens, most likely you will need to try out different approaches. So, I would advise you not to make the project from the first attempt, make some prototypes at first, the simpler the better.

Wordpress is like a ready-made house, you get what is provided by the developer, you may extend your house in the future, but subject to certain constraints like existing structure and space. Whereas PHP is like building a house from scratch by yourself based on your own design and requirements, but you got to have the skills and knowledge to do so.

WordPress is built on the PHP programming language. If you don't know anything about writing PHP, and even if you did, there is little reason to reinvent a wheel that has been invented hundreds of times, including WordPress CMS.

WordPress with a good classified add plugin or multi-vendor Woocommerce plugin would handle all of your needs. But you are still going to have to invest considerable time in learning the CMS, the plugins, and how to manage and maintain your site.
