A "fresher" would be starting with projects more suited to their skill level. Work your way up to a project as complex as anti virus software. How can you be a "fresher" if you finished your biometric project in just a couple of days?

You won't have the time until you finish your Biometrics device program. And even then it will take you a few years.

Don't bother. You don't have the experience to write something so complicated yet. You also don't have the knowledge of Windows internals to do this either.

Also, where are you going to get your virus definition file from? How are you going to analyze new viruses and add them to your definitions updates that you're going to provide to your friend every month or so??

Basically, the fact that you even asked this question tells everyone you're not qualified to write it, mainly because you have no idea how a anti-virus application even works.

Don't even think about it: A poor antivirus is worse than no antivirus at all - because it gives you a false sense of confidence so you don't take the precautions you should.

And unfortunately, that is what you will write: a poor antivirus. Not because you are an idiot, or because you are a useless programmer, but simply because you don't have the knowledge and experience you would need to take on a project of this nature. Viruses are complicated beasties these days: and they are used to all the tricks that people with considerable experience in finding them can use. Frankly, a beginner would have little or no chance of doing more than annoying people with false detections while letting the true infections through without a twitch.

Find a simpler project that can help you to grow in knowledge and experience, not something that will frustrate you and not work particularly well.
