About Webmethods in DotNet

hi friends,

I have developed web based project with Purely using Webmethods,Jquery with html input tags. But one one of my Senior developer not accepting this way of Webmethods. Can you please suggest me to use Webmethods are not?

First of all, in any project/App what you use needs answer to why you use it. Explain it to your senior.

Further, if he is not agree with what you have implemented, you should ask him why not to use this scenario.

As i stated earlier, clear only two statements and your issue will be resolved.

- Why you have used it? (Advantages). If you think page becomes light weight, demonstrate it to him.

- Why he doesn't need this way? Whats the issue?

It is hard to tell as we do not know your project and do not know the reasons of your senior to not accepting...

IMHO, the answer is a huge YES!
I'm working on a new version of our main project, and the design is entirely based on web methods.
We have over 1200 pages in our project...

In fact we developed a mini-framework that enables RAD. In that mini-framework we used web methods and not direct post-back techniques...

yes,
this will behave very well on each of the click events. Something it's loading time reflect more depends on your records length..
You can use webservice for the webmethod

I think that if you're using a pure web-service driven application, you need to make sure you have someone on hand that is intimately familiar with JavaScript. If you don't have that, it would explain why your boss would be reluctant.

Web service based applications rely quite a bit on the browser to do the heavy lifting.

i am not using any webservices. I am developing web based project purely in webmethods. here my question is , It is correct or not? why because we are using webmothods through ajax call means, I think website go's light weight and also effects on decrease loading time

A WebMethod is a declaration of a web service. It delivers formatted (XML) output without HTML markup, it's the same thing. The MSDN documentation even says as much:

With an ASP.NET application outputting standard .aspx and a WebMethod here and there will not show much performance improvement. It's still all going through the standard ASP.NET stack and has all the same overhead. Where you'll see benefit is in perceived responsiveness, but the actual data will take about the same amount of time to hit the client.

The main reason I'm not being terribly encouraging is because WebMethods are, perhaps, the worst possible way to deliver AJAX. The AJAX world has moved beyond XML, and technologies such as WebAPI and even the newer versions of MVC do it in a much more effective manner.

There is no right or wrong answer to this. You didn't give enough details for any particular answer. Yes, it is possible. But if it is good depends on your requirements. Ask your senior WHY he opposes it - and LISTEN to what he says, don't just try to persuade him to your side. Maybe he has good reason(s).

You could use MVC for the same lightweight benefit, returning JSON results from your server and doing everything else on the client
