Hello all,

I'm planning to use an android tablet as an interface for one machine.

Do you know if I could wait for the main machine computer to be ON and then start a remote connection to itself?

I was planning to use VNC as a remote connection.

Any hint about that?

If I could avoid start programming for that operating system it would be great.

I know there are also windows tablets, but I would like to know if it is easy and possible to wide alittle bit more the opportunities to find one tablet that could help.

As always thank you in advance!

Dunno. I'd likely provide a Web Service that allows _some_ client to issue commands and request status.
Edit: That sounds like "push" and that rarely works well; "pull" is a better technique.

Try connect. If fail wait for a specific amount of time, then try again until you connected...

1 solution

To know anything about a remote computer, you need to connect to some application of it. If the computer is off, you cannot do anything with it. But you can try to connect and see that the connection is failed. It may means that the application (service) are connecting to is not being executed, or the host is off — from the client standpoint, there is no difference. Isn't that logical?

And then, there are timeout settings. You will have to wait until the connection if finally denied. You can try to optimize it, you can even use connection with different timeouts, one for the special "probing" connection, but I don't this game would make a whole lot of sense. But when your connection is denied, you can repeat it after a while, and make these attempts automatic.
