Hi everyone,

The subject is about Wake On Lan and Wake On Wan

I want to turn on a shutted down or sleeping pc from another pc at same local network and global network. I am searching about the subject about 3 days. Now i can turn on a sleeping pc in local network(WOL)(If someone asks i can post the code)

Questions
1- How can i turn on a sleeping pc from global network? (WOW).
2- I googled much but i am confused if it is possible to turn on a shutted down computer in local network in windows 7?

To Improve question please allow me to define WOW and WOL
Wake On Wan and Wake on Lan. Means, turning on a slepping computer on global and local networks.
It is clear i think in question, i have done some search, but still i am not sure if it is possible to turn on a shutted down computer in local network or WOL can be applied to just a sleeping computer, because someone says yes, someone no. Also I could not manage to turn on a shutted down pc. I tried turning on a sleeping pc on local network, it works well.
Now i am not sure what to do to turn on a sleeping computer (WOW) so i am asking that question. I saw something like that, you set your modem rooter "always running state"? and you send the data over UDP to modem by determining the mac address and IP address of pc on local network of modem and that modem sends the data to specified pc. But i could not see any code parts and any answer clearly.

If something is not clear please post
Thanks everyone

Thanks SoMad, i improved the question. They are "turn on"

Download all these files located here:

Wake On LAN (WOL)[^]

You'll find that one app'll give you what the other app needs to run and with any luck the remote machine will power on.

It's horribly, horribly complicated, and probably won't work at all in modern environments: WOW (or WOL) don't work over wireless connections at all AFAIK, and they are becoming the standard rather than wired.

Even wired, the problems are twofold: a shut down PC doesn't have an IP address, so you can't refer to that - you have to use the MAC - and the MAC address doesn't leave the local area network, so it doesn't go to the internet.
Having said that, it is possible, but will depend on your modem to a certain extent.
Have a look at this: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanwan-howto/29941-how-to-wake-on-lan-wake-on-wan[^] - it should give you some idea, but after that you are on your own - I've never tried, and probably never will!

I suspect this is going to be pretty complicated...and a PITA to test!

Thanks Griff, it is going horribe you are right. i read the document you sent two times, i understood what to do, but as you predict it not terminated:). I will be continue to study on WOW if i managed to solve the issue, i will post.

Now i can turn on a sleeping pc over modem by rooting modem to target pc in local network. I am trying to access to modem from a seperated network.
