Only the left side of compiled .chm help files opens

I have just distributed a large .chm file to several hundred users and a small percentage of my users are having issues with it.

It only opens the TOC (left) side of the page. Clicking on a topic produces nothing in the right side pane.

OS are Win 7 and 8. Architecture mostly 64-bit.

The file was produced using RoboHelp 11.

We have been unable to reproduce this issue and don't know where to turn. The info we have been able to find online is usually very old (2010, 2013) and involves registry issues - too complicated for my customer base.

Does anyone know where I should look?

I would say, not enough information. Besides, .chm is not a very convenient form of documentation, due to its viewer and other factors...

Try right clicking on the chm on the users machine and in the properties "unblocking" the content.

Hello and Happy New Year.

Thank you Sergey and Mehdi.

I have since discovered that the malfunction is deliberate.

MS determined there was a possibility for remote code execution in their HTML Help program and therefore disabled it in 2 updates.

Specifically HTML Help will only load pages when it is in the Local machine context. Meaning that network access is impossible.

There is a lengthy workaround for network admins.

So now Microsoft has made it impossible to provide in-app help in networked environments. They discontinued support for the .hlp product, and now crippled their .chm product.

Yes, I do know that we could provide internet-only help but there's probably some stupid reason that won't work as well.
