Hey guys and gals, I'm sorry if this has been asked already. I am a CS undergrad looking for something extra to do outside of school. I guess my level of programming would be classified as "some programming" specifically in Java and C++, so fairly beginner. I'm looking for an online course or "software career accelerator" ( idk, I read it on a forum, thanks Google ). I understand internships and real world projects are best practice in my situation. However, I'm basically asking if anyone has done any of these types of courses because I do well in a structured and class environment.

A huge plus would be one with a network of developers that stays in contact after completion/graduation.

A even bigger plus would be one tied to the NYC area.

Thanks in advance !

Pool, juggling, card tricks, etc.

Accelerator? Hm… Some acceleration is always possible, just because there are always some bad ways to learn, which means that there should be something better, and, in particular, faster. But is faster always better? To me, it's really hard to believe that something focusing on career and doing something faster could be something real. However, it could be just an advertizing trick.

I would advise to go slower, if you knew your background and personal talents better. To start with, please read this very encouraging article, a must-read for any software developer:
Peter Norvig, Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years,

hi,
since you mentioned online courses ... you can explore Lynda.com[^] or Pluralsight[^]. They got tonnes of courses which are usually paid.

Then there is Coursera[^] where you can find programming related stuff.

Udemy [^]is another option.

Please do read the article that Sergey (SAK) has pointed to, in his answer.Sergey's answer and the article have some real good advice in case you are considering programming as a career.

hope this helps!
