Error.log and other log files creating a softlink file at /root

Hi,

In our Darwin server in /root directory, there are 70,000 link files that is created and getting created daily. what is the need of these files and how are they created ? server is failing almost everyday and need to restart and then only it will work.

In /root if I execure ls command it is getting hanged, du also and taking long time to get the out put.

what can i do with those file ? If I delete will they effect application any way ?

You should keep a full backups of your server and if you do then go ahead and delete them. If it all goes belly-up then restore from the most recent backup.

What you really need to do is find out which Application/service/whatever is creating them in the first place and deal with it appropriately.
