When I Ping My Gateway In Linux Then It Shows Host Unreachable

i have recently installed vmware on my windows machine. and it gets the inet addr:192.168.178.128 automatically. but when i try to give it static inet address of 192.168.1.75 and defautl gateway of 192.168.1.1 then centos cannot ping my deafult gateway and it shows host unreachable. What can i do now??????

You probably need to add a fixed route so the network layer can find a way between the two addresses. Type "man route" at a command prompt for help.
