How to inject or insert html to search results?

<This question is similar to my previous question about how to make extensions. What i hope to achieve is a way to add a image next to a link in a search result like Web of trust does to show which web sites are potentially harmful or not.

I have looked into and researched but most of what i am reading is suggesting how to turn a image into a link, this is not my intended case

eg.. search for lets say facebook in google.. google returns all matches within the search results the top one being..

"ICON" Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More "ICON"

I have the word ICON where I would like to have it shown which ever side is possible or easiest.

I am not sure if there is a way to search with regex for all html links then to somehow insert the image to the html or if its best to create a extension to do the job and how its done?
