It's the difference between US English (what we're used to) and that other form of English (what the rest of the world is used to). Personally, I think for once this time the US way makes more sense, but since we don't use metric, it all evens out on the WTF scale.

Not everyone in the world is American
(and yes, I will also continue to spell it "colour" and "optimise". Just be thankful I don't have need to use "gaol".)
Anyway, an "is" managed to sneak in from the initial draft so enjoy!

maybe not but the small company type jobs I get seem to want MS as the provider.
Personally I like software that you add the bells and whistles yourself and not have features never used,
but when the boss says use MS you use MS.
P.S. I come from the old school where the software was installed by copying it to ONE directory (folder for you youngsters.)

The problem is that if MS have a new OS the client will buy it, so the app needs to be supported by it. The same for the Framework and all the products. Now MS likes to create new Frameworks very fast so we need to be changing very soon to use the new features and all that to say the client that we use the newest.

[Nitpick mode] folder != directory. Folder is a Windows Shell concept that may or may not map to a directory which is a file system concept.[/Nitpick mode]

Thanks for the nitpick. I only used the terms as things that changed as they use to call folders directories, at least on my windows explorer to look at what directories are on my C: drive I view folders.

I like and appreciate the MS dev tools and environment, but find myself doing more Flash and AIR work these days.
Oh and I come from a slightly older background of working on a mini not a pc and programming for dumb terminals with 80 characters by 24 lines of information (pixel? whats that?) using a procedural top-down language (no oop there).

Oh and in My Days, all we had was tons of cardboard and a hole-punch.
