I believe it was the musky aroma of the GOTO s by the amber glow of the VT-320 accompanied by the dot-matrix printers.

Consoles - glowing
Printers - pounding
Love - all of the above!
- I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

But, there's the danger of hardware failure using limbic-system powered neural-net wetware analog computation with the 100k years-old VPT (Violent Primate Territorial) OS, not to mention slow death by breeding rug-rats, not to mention the lack of descriptive error messages, technical support, etc.
«If you search in Google for 'no-one ever got fired for buying IBM:' the top-hit is the Wikipedia article on 'Fear, uncertainty and doubt'» What does that tell you about sanity in these times?

Still, in terms of autonomous, self-correcting real-time adaptive systems capable of intellectual-emotive learning, coupled with a real-time multi-terabyte storage and retrieval system as well as multitasking background retrieval algorithms, and finally a compilation unit that takes soft-processes and hard-codes them into highly efficient electro-chemical playback routines, ... well, it sure beats an iPhone!

One job was C, SQL and PROLOG.

I use C, C++, Assembler, VB6 and C# currently for work. In my past life I used Java and SQL, but not at the degree I am using the other languages now (I also dislike them both a lot).
