Personally, from what I have 'played' with Eclipse, its a rather awesome design. I just wish I knew what to do with Java.

Don't know of any other tool that does java development better.

There is one freeware called JCreator. I haven't used it but I think it is also widely used by Java World right?

JCreator is only one step up from using notepad.

So do I. (VC++).
On a collaborative project with many contractors, dev suite and target OS were "hardwired" in interface documents so we keep on making fixes (from time to time) with VC++ 6.0 to avoid huge regression testing on the whole system...

It probably won't come as too much of a surprise that I've currently got all of the following installed on my laptop, given that we support add-ins for them:
- eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0
- Visual C++ 6.0
- Visual Studio .NET 2002
- Visual Studio .NET 2003
- Visual Studio 2005
- Visual Studio 2008
That list came very close to having Visual C++ 5.0 added to it a couple of weeks back too.
eMbedded Visual C++ 3.0 is another one we would consider adding if someone asks for it, too.

You've got me beat by only one on the MS side.
But since I have an equal smattering of non-MS compilers, I think it balances out.

i would like to install vs2008 in my pc with vs2005 but i fear that this would bring me problems....

Yes, they can. I've not had any problems running them side by side.
The only interaction we've seen was between VC6 and eVC4, but unless you're doing something pretty exotic with add-ins you aren't likely to run into it.

I left a company a few years ago and have been brought back as a contractor a few times to add some modifications to existing code. So Visual C/C++ 1.52 is technically still on my list. I do not have anything above 2003, but I still have QuickC around here some place.

How about the .NET Command Prompt which opens up more power unrestricted for those who want do delve into the details and play with the various command line switches? A few of the csc switches, I am sure are not exposed and supported within the context of IDE right?
