You got to live with only command prompts when there are servers in which you have to operate upon. Servers, in most cases, don't have Visual IDEs installed for security reasons. Isn't it?

Nah, it's DOS.
I mostly use CSC because it doesn't require project and solution files and needless subdirectories.
I only use VS when doing WinForms.

True. Also, CSC is bit smarter that you need not mention the standard assemblies in the r switch right? When we try VBC, I think it makes a bit more complex anyway.

I've got to ask the question, with +-26% of respondents using VS2003, how the hell can MS not support it on Vista?
Now granted, I'm on the verge of rolling back to XP, but it seems crazy.

It does. We have some major problems with using VS2005 for add-in development, and the two issues together are causing us some real headaches.

I have VS2003, VC# 2005 Express and VS 2008 Beta 2 installed on a Vista HOme Premium laptop. Vista gave an initial warning about the issues that it has with VS2003, but I have been running it under the administrator setting and it has been behaving itself sofar.
I have also had all 3 open at the same time (slighty confusing as t which example I have open it which version
