It was St. Patricks Day yesterday, so it's safe to assume that a good part of the Irish nation (and most other nationalitets who take any reason for grabbing a pint for that matter) was slightly tipsy at the end of yesterday evening/this morning...

With some coercion I convinced the boss to employee another person to help lighten my load a little bit. We employed a kid straight out of high school with a little bit of knowledge in coding practices. He is learning on the job while studying at Uni.
I think there should be more of this because it has really helped me as much as him. My code is cleaner and easier to read so that he will understand it better. Explaining network architecture, what the computer actually does to execute the code he writes, mathematics behind algorithms has helped to reinforce my knowledge.
Win-Win I think.

Being clean and consistent with your coding practices makes a hell of a difference too. I do find it irritating when the protege up an leaves before you can get any real benefit from them though.

We almost work for free. Not quite, but a good Apprentice costs the company about 1/4 of a normal dev. Exchange the that to 7/4 is you caught a bad Apprentice

This is partly why I have spent time with QA: it helps you to think in simpler, clearer ways which I think focuses you better on what you are trying to produce. And sometimes the inexperienced come up with a doozie of a question which makes you think "Hay? What? But..." and throws you down a new path where you learn something good yourself.

As they film the Big Bang Theory in front of a studio audience, it's hard to imagine that there wouldn't be laughter.

Sure, but try to focus on it and you will soon notice how orchestrated the laughter often starts and ends. 
Right now I am watching a rerun of an ooooold episode of Step by Step[^]. That show is from a more innocent time and is very family oriented, but it is always good for some great laughs.
