I have Apple devices and all flavors of Windows. Apple does some things better and some worse than MS. I just never drank the cool-aid from either place. I seem to cuss Windows (Microsoft) more but hey, I support it at work.

I guess it takes something that you enjoy done well.
For example I used to be a NeXTSTeP fan, it was awesome!!!
Then they were bought by apple and took 2 years to release .. OS9, meh... (that was back in the days)
Meanwhile Microsoft released .NET! Ho.... it's when I become MS fan, .NET is awesome!
(Mmm... I should think of that, wanting to like WinRT now, what is wrong with me? Have I been C++ brain washed?)
As for Apple fan, I guessed they loved apple when it had first decent phone and tablets?
As for Google, maybe people loved it when it introduce first decent and affordable phone?

Why can't people just say that they prefer the UI.
Coincidentally that's my reason for not upgrading to Windows8. Having to use all programs in fullscreen mode on a PC is a no go to me.

Does anyone "really" know how?
I've been checking all over the net with conflicting results.
It's one of the most horrifically invasive things I've ever had to actually live with (for now). The Sc^mbags (at Chevy dealer) didn't tell me it can't really be turned off. They, GM, and OnStar (owned by GM) will not do it and won't say what will happen if its unplugged/de-antennaed/etc.
I was wondering about a foil hat for my vehicle (mine is too small).
Seriously, though. Does anyone have experience with a factory installed system?

Instructions for getting rid of OnStar:
0. Drive your car to the nearest dealer of preferred non-GM brand.
1. Pick a car on their lot, any will do.
2. Drive away in your new car and wave at your GM as you drive off.

I would imagine that there must be a fuse that this gets its power through: remove. Job done.

unless it has a safty feature that stops the car working if its disconnected, a tracker that was easy to disable would be pretty pointless would it not?

If only it were that simple. This horror is integrated throughout the vehicles (or so it is said by dealer, GM, OnStar, and many at online forums). There isn't an 'OnStar' fuse.
Some say pulling the fuse (which one is not clear) would also disable blue-tooth - fine, I don't use it.
Pulling the antenna (it has its own, along with connections to others) should greatly reduce communications, but even the little nub sticking out will make contact on occasion as a poor antenna.
Some things say disconnect it's power - others say that will make the care undriveable or cause other problems.
A lot of conflicting information, guesses, and knowledge and BS - all stewed together. Hence my posting to CP.

I get it. However, the device has to be powered to work. If you can figure out which fuse it gets that power through you should be able to remove it. What harm can it do to test this? If the car doesn't work, put the fuse back. Simple.
You may be able to find a wiring diagram online.
My next car might be a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ - if I can find one.

My Chrysler has a built in thing that can locate it somehow if it gets stolen. Some kind of built in tracking device. I don't have a problem with that.

I have trouble with cookies, flash-cookies, etc. They don't hold a candle to having someone able to follow you around. It wouldn't be so awful if I could simple disable it (which I would do). I am one of those who do have a problem with being logged.

There's no problem with that... think people should have a choice whether they allow it or not. Giving you something you have absolutely no control over is really not a good solution at all.

It monitors your vehicle location to a central store.*
It has two way voice communications with the vehicle.
It can lock/unlock your vehicle, disable start-up, etc.
You can unsubscribe - but you cannot stop the above from occurring.
If it were computer software, it would be the worlds worst malware - not only stealing information about you, but doing it 'in your face', and built into the computer so you cannot delete it.
