I obviously need to crawl out from underneath the stone where I've been hiding for a while.
I was completely unaware of the fact that Ender's game has been turned into a movie that's coming to the cinemas in the US on the first of November.
As it's one of my favourite books all time I'm looking forward to watch it but expecting to be utterly disappointed. Especially as Harrison Ford is doing Colonel Graff.
What's your take on it?

I didn't know either, until about a month ago.
Excellent book (and series) by a master of his craft: I'm hoping for the best, but not expecting it. The Directors credits are all for films I don't remember or never heard of, which isn't a good sign...http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004303/[^]

Personally I found Enders Shadow to be the best one, but it can't really be read by itself as you really need to know what happened in Enders Game to get all the references.

I watched it last friday, obviously we are a bit ahead over here - I don't want to spoil you, so I summarize my thoughts on the movie without going into the story.
I haven't read the book, so I can't say wether it is good in compaqrison to the book. However, I think they managed to make it a bit different from the average crapfiction movie, but go and see it (you'll gonna watch at least a decent movie).
And then I heard it like a shot through my skull to my brain,
I felt my fingertips tingle and it started to rain,
When the walls of my bedroom were tremblin' around me,
This ramshackle voice over attack of a bluebeat,
And tellin' me she's only looking for fun.
And this was the sound of the very last gang in town.

I read the books in the 80's, so my memory of what happened isn't fantastic, but I enjoyed them and any movie made based on any one of them should be entertaining. (The last in the series probably wouldn't transfer well to the big screen.)

Sorry, but I don't follow you here. Are you saying Harrison Ford is a bad actor or just that you don't think he fits the role as you know it?

I guess you get a mental picture of the characters when you read a book, and Harrison Ford just doesn't fit my picture of Colonel Graff. A large version of Harvey Keitel would have been a better fit.
Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham sounds like the perfect cast to me though.

He did a great job in the movie, indeed - I think his appearance is one of the best parts of the movie.
