Hi Rahul! Been busy, and your email slipped down the pile, because it needs thinking about, rather than an instant response. Then the power goes out this morning so I'm behind schedule - way behind - and trying to catch back up (Still 38 unread emails I need to look at from today!) and will get back to you later today.

I finally took the plunge and upgraded to 8.1. After getting rid of Metro, it's actually not that bad. File manager is a lot better than Windows 7 file manager. Of coarse, there's tonnes of things that don't work properly (hibernation, large fonts, etc.), but that's just the par of the coarse when you have a Microsoft OS.

Windows 7 removed the copy and paste buttons, and in Windows 8.1 they are back.

Two buttons... which I use *all* the time, so yes they are important.
But also, lots of other stuff, the ui just seems to be organised much better

True.
And if he doesn't want to use his other hand, then after selecting files and/or folders, right-click and select the "Copy" menu item, followed by right-clicking in the destination location and selecting the "Paste" menu item. It only takes one hand and there is no need to navigate the mouse to a button location.

you need two hands to activate the shortcut, so you have to take your hand off the mouse and that slows you down. Really there's no reason no to have a toolbar button. It's not like there's no room
|

Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V are one-handed (left-hand) shortcuts unless you have particularly small hands. Pinky on Ctrl, forefinger on C then V. I can do Ctrl-N left-handed without discomfort.

it's still handy to have the toolbar buttons though
