Of course, arrays are not zero based. When you access an array such as array[0] you are referring to the offset.

Delphi uses 1 based arrays.
Actually, depending on what the array is some are one based and others are zero based.

Isn't Delphi an offshoot of turbo pascal and doesn't pascal have the notion of n-based arrays, in other words one can state the starting & ending range of the array?

True for arrays you create, but certain structures in memory you get handed to you are one based and others are zero based. Strings can be accessed as arrays and are 1 based because the zeroth element contains the length of the string. But other memory arrays are zero based. I even used to have a print out of one of the help pages stating that the function used one base but actually used zero base.

So I dont spend my own money that often on development machines . But its that time again. Every time I end up trawling through lots of sites comparing who has the best machines at the moment . I have no preference for laptop or desktop but want lots of power , a fair size SSD and a quiet machine . My budget I hear you ask ? Probably up to £2000 but maybe a bit more . No monitor needed . Does anyone have any current recommendations ?

I would like to get it as cheap as possible , but the way that VAT works if I pay over £2000 I can claim the VAT back . (20%) So I set it at that to see what I can get for my wonga.

But if you spend that much the money's gone. How much VAT will you save to subsidize what appears to be the most amazing overspending?
